| The 4th installment in the hatred series, this is the base image I made for a cd cover for a side project of a well known swedish guitar player (to be named later). The concept was eyeballs, so making a new hatred image seemed like the logical step. This is probably my best eyeball yet, Because its not just a texture map, I actually modeled the eye, cornea and all. All the mechanical equipment was modeled using pretty standard modeling techniques, booleans, meshsmooth, etc. The textures and lighting is where I spent most of my time, go to the cg education section of this website for some tutorials on the metal texture used, it's basically a combination of metal shaders and anisotropic highlights. I was just about ready to call it finished when Steve here at blur saw it and said "you know, you really want to include actual raytraced reflections in the image." It meant more work, but I agreed, after about an hour of tweaking, the metal jumped from cool looking to almost photoreal, which I'm very happy about. So the reflections you're seeing is a combination of real reflections in the scene and reflection maps, giving it a pretty rich look. The client was happy, I was happy. Oh ya, and digital fusion was used to do some post processing including the glows based on the brighter pixels in the scene. |
