| Visited Hawaii last week and got to visit a real life volcano (wow). As well as taking a zillion pictures, bought a lava book on our way out. The book had this picture of pouring lava, the lava was bunching up on itself into folds, and the center was still hot while the outside folds were cooling off and turning grey, made for a nice photo and here's a shader stab at something similar. Used noise to displace the sphere, then applied a push modifier to the geometry so that the ridges expanded which gives it that nice wrinkled feeling. Then blended between a hot lava and cooled lava texture, the hot lava is applied to the center geometry. This is all one piece of geometry, not multiple objects. A slight glow added post process in photoshop. |
